Kendal Common committee schedules summer neighborhood meeting, plans postcard mailing

WESTON — May 22, 2024 — Kendal Common study committee leans on state opinion to argue historic district shields neighborhood from MBTA zoning. Members of the Kendal Common Local Historic District Study Committee, meeting May 22, debriefed a town MBTA Communities workshop held the night before that drew roughly 40 residents, about 10 from Kendal Common. Member Alicia Primer said she had forwarded a Massachusetts Historical Commission written opinion to town MBTA consultant Leslie Glynn that morning, and quoted Glynn calling it "a game changer" because a designated local historic district "is indeed protected from a zoning change." Neighborhood representative Rick Brotman said the workshop's tabletop discussion concluded the town's required 20 acres of rezoning could be met without including Kendal Common parcels. The committee set a summer in-person neighborhood gathering at the Kendal Common Playground for either June 22 or July 20, approved prior minutes, and scheduled its next meeting for June 13 at 9:30 a.m.
