Weston FinCom forms subcommittee to vet six applicants for two open seats

WESTON — May 23, 2024 — Weston Finance Committee creates three-member subcommittee to fill two open seats amid a six-applicant field. Chair Lisa Ratano said the past practice of interviewing all applicants together had become "discouraging," and members voted 5-0 to let the chair appoint a subcommittee to triage applications and interview at least three finalists before the July 11 meeting. Newly sworn-in member Rui Zhang cast his first vote. The committee also received a roughly 50-minute briefing from the town planner and Planning Board Chair Leslie on the MBTA Communities law, which requires Weston to rezone for 750 units across 50 acres by a Dec. 3 Town Meeting vote. Weston currently sits near 3.5 percent affordable on the Subsidized Housing Inventory, well below the 10 percent 40B threshold. Members also revisited the spring Town Meeting, where the committee helped defeat a roughly $600,000 CPC cemetery wall article 161-140.
