Kendal Common committee plans postcard survey of district property owners

WESTON -- May 2, 2024, Kendal Common study committee will mail QR-code feedback survey to district property owners. Members of the Kendal Common Local Historic District Study Committee agreed May 2 to send a town-branded postcard to all owners of record within the proposed district, directing residents to a short survey on their questions and concerns about a possible local historic district. Committee member Alicia Primer reported that the Massachusetts Historical Commission has indicated in writing that a local historic district "would provide protection from 3A rezoning," referring to the MBTA Communities Act's requirement that Weston zone for 750 multifamily units with 40 percent of capacity within a half mile of a transit station. Primer will circulate a plain-language translation of the state opinion within a week. Neighborhood representative Rick Brotman, who also serves as president of the Kendal Common Corporation, said reaction to a recent community meeting was "generally positive" but said he hoped a newer resident would emerge as a vocal advocate. The committee next meets May 22 at 9:30 a.m.
