Kendal Common committee rewrites draft guidelines on interior work, additions

WESTON — February 15, 2024 — Weston's Kendal Common study committee rewrites draft historic district guidelines to clarify scope. Meeting Feb. 15, the Local Historic District Study Committee reworked language members feared could be read as banning interior work and additions on the mid-century neighborhood's homes. Members agreed to bold "only built exterior features," to add a new line stating that "expansions and/or additions are allowed, but are subject to review for design compatibility and appropriateness," and to rephrase the closing sentence so the commission "has no purview over interior repairs and renovations." The draft will also cite Massachusetts General Laws on commission composition. The committee tabled sign-off on the consultant's third batch of property area forms — covering post-1945 houses outside the Historical Commission's jurisdiction — pending review by an absent member. Next meeting tentatively Feb. 29.
