Kendal Common Study Group Plans Picnic Outreach, Eyes October Meeting
WESTON — September 19, 2024 — Weston's Kendal Common Historic District Study Group met September 19 with no public present and took no formal votes, instead focusing on neighborhood outreach and MBTA zoning concerns. A committee member identified as Rick reported that a home at the Kendal Common/Sales Road intersection had sold off-market to an architect, which he called potentially favorable to the district effort, and estimated that six or seven of the neighborhood's roughly 14 to 15 households actively support the proposal. The group agreed to place informational flyers at the Kendal Common picnic on September 29 rather than attend formally, and staff member Valerie was asked to produce overdue meeting minutes to keep the group in compliance with the Open Meeting Law. Rick argued that formal historic district designation remains the strongest protection against unwanted MBTA Communities Act zoning, pushing back on resident suggestions that the two efforts are linked, and noted that the 3A statute forbids imposing affordability requirements on the zoning it mandates. The committee set its next meeting for October 17, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
