Select Board sets bid parameters for first Weston Power Choice electricity contract

WESTON — February 16, 2024 — Weston Select Board sets price and renewables guidance for its first electricity aggregation contract. The board on Feb. 16 unanimously instructed Town Manager Leon to seek a Weston Power Choice supply price no higher than the expected average Eversource basic service rate over the contract term, capped at three years, with maximum additional renewables drawn from Massachusetts Class 1 RECs. Consultant Paul Gromer said aggregation has beaten basic service in most Massachusetts communities, while individual competitive supply has cost residents more than $500 million by the state attorney general's count. Member Tom Palmer called the program pure upside: "This just provides another option at the end of the day for residents." Chair Laurie Bent called the three-year DPU delay "incredibly frustrating." Service begins in June after April 11 and April 18 information sessions. The board separately tabled a $3,371 water abatement request from resident Sheldon Jacobson pending further usage analysis.
