Kendal Common committee accepts state survey timeline, defers homeowner opt-in vote

WESTON — June 13, 2022 — Kendal Common study committee accepts long state timeline for $30,000 modernist survey. Phyllis Halpern of the Weston Historical Commission told members June 13 the survey is funded by a 50-50 match — $15,000 from the Massachusetts Historical Commission, $15,000 administrative funds from the Community Preservation Committee — to inventory up to 105 mid-century modern properties, with a working list of 78. Halpern said consultant deliverables likely will not arrive until December, with the full three-phase scope running roughly 40 weeks. Members deferred any formal homeowner opt-in survey, citing a Lexington precedent that took a year to reach 70 percent of 150 households, and dropped three Waltham-only properties from scope. Open questions on vacant lots and a new build at 56 French Road go to Massachusetts Historical Commission staffer Jennifer Doherty before a June 30 meeting.
