Weston Rail Trail Committee Unanimously Approves $24,560 Bench Installation Plan

WESTON — June 14, 2022 — Weston Rail Trail Advisory Committee approves $24,560 to install and correct benches at three trail locations. The committee voted unanimously at its June 14 meeting to accept a proposal from Stonegate Gardens covering work at Church Street, Concord Road, and Gun Club Lane, including correction of two historic benches that a previous contractor had installed at the wrong location and backwards. Coordinator Chris Fitzgerald confirmed the town's construction budget retains $42,614, more than enough to cover the work. A separate unresolved dispute with landscaping contractor Belco over roughly six failing plants between Conant Road and Church Street was discussed at length but not voted on; the committee is withholding the final 5 percent payment to Belco while it investigates whether unauthorized mulching or herbicide application may have voided the contractor's replacement warranty. Committee member Eli's updated punch list found seven of the committee's 12 original charge items completed, with the chair planning to bring the document to the Select Board to begin a discussion about eventually closing out the committee.
