Weston MBTA Working Group Advances Boston Properties Deal, Avoids Legal Action
WESTON — July 17, 2025 — Weston's MBTA 3A Working Group secured a de facto summer reprieve from state enforcement and set up a pivotal round of negotiations with Boston Properties. The group learned July 17 that the Massachusetts Attorney General's office will not pursue legal action this summer or fall against non-compliant communities making good-faith compliance efforts, pushing Weston's legal jeopardy date to January 1, 2026. Town Planner Emi Iу (phonetic) confirmed she has a complete draft of the MBTA 3A zoning bylaw in hand but is holding it from circulation for at least one week pending the outcome of a July 23 negotiating session with Boston Properties, where discussions will center on a newly approved concept that would relocate the half-mile compliance radius from Kendall Green station to a potential future station on the Boston Properties site at 133 Boston Post Road. EOHLC gave verbal approval to the revised layout, which the group said could accommodate the town's overall 750-unit target while reducing density impacts on surrounding neighborhoods. A planning consultant has not yet been hired, with three firms — Sasaki, Utile, and CBT — still under review.
