Kendal Common committee elects co-chairs, moves toward survey RFP

WESTON — May 26, 2022 — Weston's Kendal Common study committee elected co-chairs and lined up its first survey contract. At its May 26 organizational meeting, the Kendal Common Historic District Study Committee unanimously elected Kathleen Fink and Alicia Primer as co-chairs and Fink as acting secretary, with staff liaison Christine handling official records. Members said roughly $20,000 to $25,000 in Community Preservation funds has been appropriated for a professional neighborhood survey, but the money must be released through the Weston Historical Commission at its May 31 meeting before an RFP can go out. Member David Cook volunteered to draft scope language using Lincoln and Lexington documents as templates. Member Rick Bennett, an architectural historian and Kendal Common resident, declined to chair, saying he would instead focus on communications and argued the survey should capture more than buildings: Kendal Common, he said, "preempts, it foreshadows, co-housing." The committee's next meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 13.
