Zoning board continues Willard Road hearing, seeks further size reduction

WESTON — May 7, 2024 — Weston zoning board sends Willard Road developer back for a further size cut. The Zoning Board of Appeals voted 3-0 Tuesday to continue Joseph Scaparrota Jr.'s special-permit hearing for a tear-down at 29 Willard Road to May 21, after his team's revised plans dropped the home's residential gross floor area from 5,260 to 4,379 square feet — a 25.8 percent lot-area ratio still well above the roughly 22 percent of nearby builds. Chair Jane Carlson said the new design was "still high for the neighborhood"; member Laura Mintz called the reduction "a little too little." The applicant's attorney warned the partnership may withdraw rather than absorb a third redesign. The board separately granted the Fire Department a six-month extension, to Nov. 7, of the variance for a communications tower at 150 Highland Street, pending coordination with the town's water-tank project at the site.
