Weston votes 387-86 to adopt MBTA 3A zoning, expands Select Board to five members

WESTON — October 16, 2025 — Weston's special town meeting approved a new MBTA Communities Chapter 3A zoning compliance plan 387 to 86, roughly 82 percent in favor, capping years of deliberation over the state-required multifamily housing zoning. Town Manager Leon Gaumond, recapping both the October 14 Select Board meeting and October 15 special town meeting, said the plan had unanimous backing from the Planning Board, Select Board, and Finance Committee before voters weighed in. A separate article modifying the development agreement with Boston Properties to support Zone A of the compliance plan passed 332 to 28, about 92 percent in favor. Also at the Select Board meeting, the board voted to designate the newly launched Weston Observer as the town's newspaper of record for legal notices, and named David Fixler to a vacancy on the Permanent Building Committee. With the governor's signature on a special act authorizing an expansion of the Select Board from three to five members, a confirming special election is now set for January 13, 2026 — and if approved, three seats will appear on the May ballot.
