Weston School Committee Approves Student-Founded Clash Royale Club 4-0

WESTON — October 20, 2025 — Weston approves Clash Royale Club as student founders make their case to the School Committee. The four-member panel voted 4-0 Monday to recognize the mobile strategy gaming club at Weston High School after two student founders described more than 70 sign-ups at the school club fair — making it the second-largest club in the building — and argued the game promotes in-person connection and teamwork. Member Kenneth Newberg said he could accept the club "given where we are at the moment with cell phones being allowed" but signaled he would oppose any exemption once the district's planned bell-to-bell phone ban takes effect in fall 2026. The committee also approved a revised transportation services policy 4-0 and heard MCAS results showing Weston third graders ranked first in the state in both ELA and math among districts with more than 50 third graders, while the high school accountability score fell from 79 percent to 66 percent as the test shifted to low-stakes status statewide.
