Weston Select Board tightens road-cut moratorium and ends COVID emergency

WESTON — June 14, 2021 — Weston Select Board defers Love Lane restrictions, prorates water tiers, and rescinds COVID emergency. Member Christopher Houston's hand-tabulated survey showed 87 percent of Love Lane households backed proposed turn restrictions at Route 20, but 124 surrounding-neighborhood respondents opposed by roughly 70 to 22 percent, citing displacement onto Deer Path, Westerly and Buckskin and worsened safety at Highland and Route 20, where DPW Director Tom Cullen pegged a future signal at $2 million to $3 million if locally funded. The board unanimously adopted Houston's road-cut overhaul imposing $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 fees for cuts in calendar years three, four and five after repaving, and adopted a tier-proration fix sending credits to roughly 1,700 water customers, some as small as $4.40, with interest waived through June 30. The board also voted 3-0 for preliminary support of a 150-foot cell tower on MassDOT land at Wellesley and Brown Street proposed by Chris Hesse of US Wireless, and rescinded the local COVID-19 state of emergency effective at midnight.
