Weston Select Board Orders Concord Road Repaving Timeline, Defers Camera Vote

Select Board · Meeting of July 28, 2026

Weston Select Board directs Public Works to produce a Concord Road repaving timeline and defers a vote on traffic-monitoring cameras pending legal review. At the July 28 meeting, Chair John F. McDonald and the four-member board heard a comprehensive memo from DPW Director Rich Sullivan listing dozens of concurrent construction projects — culverts, road reconstructions, water-main replacements, MassDOT bridge work, and utility programs — while Sullivan disclosed the department is operating at roughly two-thirds normal staffing due to retirements, injuries, and vacancies.

The board gave clear direction that a straightforward surface repaving of long-deteriorated Concord Road should be prioritized over a full drainage-and-reconstruction approach, after Sachdev said residents told him they want the road "just finished" rather than wait years for a larger project. A proposed motion to place XROADS LiDAR pedestrian-and-vehicle cameras at Cases Corner near Land's Sake was carried to the next meeting after Member Revers noted that the legal agreement in the packet was an outdated version not yet reviewed by town counsel KP Law. The board also agreed to hold its September 8 meeting at 5:30 p.m. to accommodate a Weston Historical Society event marking the 250th anniversary reading of the Declaration of Independence, and moved its September 22 meeting to September 29.
