Weston Select Board Approves Wellesley Street Property Sales, Backs JST Parking Variance

WESTON — June 23, 2026 — Weston Select Board unanimously approves sale of three town properties and backs Josiah Smith Tavern parking variance. The board voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve purchase-and-sale agreements for 131, 133, and 135 Wellesley Street, with Town Manager Leon Gaumond reporting that all buyer signatures and exhibits are in hand and the proposal security checks received. The board also voted 5-0 to formally support the Josiah Smith Tavern restaurant's pursuit of a Zoning Board of Appeals variance for 22 additional on-street parking spaces, though as of the meeting the restaurateur had not yet filed an application with the ZBA. In other action, the board authorized Phase 1 of the Town Green Planting Project under a $30,000 landscape architect contract. The newly formed Housing Production Plan Steering Committee announced it had unanimously selected consultant Community Scales at approximately $52,000 to update Weston's five-year plan, with a state filing deadline of mid-August required to maintain safe-harbor status — a protection the town needs given that Weston's Subsidized Housing Inventory stands at 340 units, or 8.5 percent, roughly 100 units short of the 10 percent threshold.
