Weston Select Board sends $10M Route 30 redesign to MassDOT review

WESTON — September 24, 2020 — Weston Select Board advances $10M Route 30 redesign and adopts new transfer station fees. The board voted unanimously to submit a 25 percent design package to MassDOT for a 3.7-mile reconstruction of Route 30 with a 10-foot shared-use path and new signals at Oak and Winter streets, after consultant Bridget Meyers of Howard Stein Hudson presented the redesign triggered by MassDOT's revised Healthy Transportation thresholds. Town Center Planning Committee Chair Steve LaRock told the board the alternative — a town-funded repave — would cost roughly $4 million versus zero town dollars for construction under the TIP route. The board also adopted a per-item bulky waste fee schedule effective Jan. 1 and approved an $84-a-week composting pilot; a two-and-a-half-week sample would have generated about $3,600. Laurie Bent was elected chair, replacing Christopher Houston, with Harvey Boshart as clerk. Boshart read a detailed statement defending LaRock against Facebook conflict-of-interest claims he called "unfounded and false."
