Weston CPC restarts $25,000 Housing Production Plan funding after COVID delay

WESTON — October 5, 2020 — Weston CPC approves $25,000 for housing plan, hears $2.1 million Memorial Pool pitch. The Community Preservation Committee on Oct. 5 unanimously re-approved $25,000 in fiscal 2021 administrative funds for the town's Housing Production Plan after COVID delays caused the original March appropriation to lapse; consultant Jen Goldstone's proposal came in at about $22,000, with the balance held as contingency. The committee also heard a Recreation Commission request for $250,000 in design funds toward a $1.9 million to $2.1 million Memorial Pool rehabilitation, driven by a 1993 filtration system whose roughly $500,000 replacement is projected for 2023-2025. The commission, represented by Chair Eric Rosenthal, Director Chris Fitzgerald and Commissioner Melissa, dropped a new bathhouse from the scope after the Board of Health waived a code that would have required up to 31 showers and added about $2 million. Member Steve called filter replacement "a responsibility of the town" rather than CPC, while Member Sue said she wanted demographic data on who actually uses the pool. The public hearing is set for Oct. 26.
