Weston Select Board orders draft special act to rescue 2021 caucus, election

WESTON -- January 12, 2021, Weston Select Board moves to draft home-rule special act to save spring caucus and election. The board met Tuesday with State Sen. Michael Barrett and State Rep. Alice Peisch, then directed town counsel Lauren Goldberg of KP Law to prepare a draft special act and a letter to the governor for action at its Jan. 26 meeting. Goldberg told the board current 25-person gathering limits make a lawful caucus impossible; Town Clerk Deb Davenport will email statewide clerks to gauge joint interest. Peisch said consensus revenue figures were "not bad" and that level state and school aid in FY22 would be a safe budgeting assumption. The board also voted 3-0 to approve orders of taking for 83 and 85 Newton Street and 3-0 to extend a grant of location at 99 North Avenue to April 1. Proposed commercial dog walker regulations, including a 50-foot/10-second recall standard, remain in draft.
