Weston Select Board endorses Land's Sake soil plan, names acting police chief

WESTON — December 22, 2021 — Weston Select Board endorses Land's Sake soil management plan and taps Capt. Kelly as acting chief. The board on Dec. 22 voted unanimously to back the Arcadis-prepared soil management plan dated Dec. 1, 2021 governing greenhouse and animal barn construction on the former Case Estates land, despite abutters' protest that the plan is already being violated by an uncovered soil stockpile and that the new building footprints sit outside the borings done before the 2010-2011 removal of more than 1,300 tons of arsenic-contaminated soil. Arcadis's Jim Luker said none of the dust-control precautions are required by regulation but were adopted "to make sure that ... stakeholders and the abutters are confident." On a separate vote, member Lori Bent was named liaison to the police chief search replacing retiring Chief Michael Goulding, and Capt. Kelly was named acting chief; Badge Quest's Robert Pomeroy said roughly eight candidates had applied with 1,200 views on the national posting, targeting an April selection. The board also seated Dusty Rhodes as chair of the new Town Center Celebrations Committee and appointed Wenhua Zhang to the Housing Production Plan Implementation Committee.
