Weston Select Board approves Eversource Town Center grant of location

WESTON — November 9, 2021 — Weston Select Board cool to three-to-five expansion, approves Town Center utility filing. Former Planning Board member Susan Zacharias urged the three-member board to put a citizen's petition on the May warrant expanding the Select Board to five, citing the town's growth to nearly 12,000 residents and Open Meeting Law constraints on three-member deliberation. Member Anupam Sachdev countered that roughly 53 percent of comparable Massachusetts towns keep three-member boards and that any change should come through a comprehensive governance review, not an ad hoc article. Member Laurie Bent called the proposal "a bit of a distraction" from the Housing Production Plan and climate priorities. Town Manager Leon Gaumond confirmed neither bylaw nor charter fixes the board at three. The board separately approved unanimously an Eversource grant of location covering 24 manholes and roughly 5,700 feet of Town Center conduit, and appointed members to the Housing Production Plan Implementation Committee.
