Weston committee advances Ash Street survey, defers convex-mirror policy

WESTON — November 10, 2021 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee advanced a new Ash Street sidewalk survey and heard detailed pushback on the Riverside Lab Park Road redesign. Consultants Lourenco Dantas and Rick Plenge of BHB, presenting for developer Greatland, walked the committee through a 10-foot east-side shared-use path, granite curbs, radar speed signs and two bridge options — an on-street separated bikeway or an 11-foot raised multi-use path widening the existing sidewalk. Judy Nitsch of 17 Blake Road questioned a proposed turnpike right-turn lane and read a neighbor's text asking the town to weigh residents "as much as the bikers and walkers from other towns." Chair Jay Doyle's motion to fund engineering survey for a revised Ash Street midsection alignment passed unanimously. A draft policy discouraging convex mirrors was rescinded after member Olga Shulman voted no. Sustainability Coordinator Courtney Rohde said Complete Streets adoption could unlock $38,000 in technical assistance and up to $400,000 in construction funds.
