Weston Rail Trail Committee Approves Both Trailhead Plans, Eyes February Bid

WESTON — November 13, 2018 — Weston Rail Trail Advisory Committee approves redesigned trailhead plans at both Concord Road and Church Street. The committee voted unanimously on both plans at its November 13 meeting, authorizing the engineering firm NICHE to advance toward 100 percent construction drawings with a target bid date of February. A committee member identified as Paul reported 32 outstanding punch list items on the newly paved trail, including premature asphalt cracking tied to late-afternoon paving sessions, noting that the town engineer believed the work would be redone on a municipal contract. A property owner at the Church Street site disputed the plan's effect on depot access, and the committee agreed to seek town legal guidance on how to indicate available driveway options without formally proposing them. The Recreation Commission separately proposed 15 benches and 5 bike racks along the trail, with a joint working group to be formed with DCR standards consultant Paul Janicki brought in early.
