Weston Rail Trail Committee Reviews 12-Item Charge, Eyes Select Board Briefing

WESTON — April 4, 2022 — Weston Rail Trail Advisory Committee takes stock of decade of work, weighs handoff. At its April 4 meeting, the committee worked through a draft 12-item progress report prepared by member Eli, finding most charge items complete or partially complete but flagging regional rail transportation access as "not done — and not our fault," citing state inaction. Four benches remain uninstalled along the trail, with Recreation Department staff awaiting a cost quote from Stonegate Gardens and Weston 300 funds expected to cover at least part of the expense. Chair Gail said she plans to bring the polished report to the Select Board to seek guidance on long-term trail stewardship, including whether management responsibilities should shift to the Recreation Department, the Historical Commission, Forest and Trails, or a nonprofit modeled on the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. The committee does not expect to meet again until late May or early June.
