Weston Rail Trail Advisory Committee votes to dissolve, hand responsibilities to town

WESTON — September 6, 2023 — Weston's Rail Trail Advisory Committee voted unanimously to recommend its own dissolution at its September 6 final meeting. Chair Gail Palmer moved that the Select Board, working with Town Manager Leon Gaumond, formally dissolve the committee and determine the fate of two remaining budget lines — $23,996 designated for design and $26,003 for amenities — totaling roughly $50,000. The committee also voted unanimously to return $16,544 in unspent Phase 2 planting funds to the Community Preservation Committee, though a subsequent check with town hall staffer Cheri Mahan confirmed the actual balance is $15,452. Member Eli Mather presented an updated summary report, originally drafted in June 2022, documenting completion of the committee's 12-item charge from the Select Board; Palmer was scheduled to present the report along with a trail-responsibility reassignment plan to the Select Board on September 12.
