Weston Panel Extends Oil Spill Cleanup Deadline to Dec. 31
Conservation Commission · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Weston conservation panel extends emergency oil-spill cleanup deadline to year's end. The Conservation Commission voted 6-0 to extend an emergency certification covering a 25-gallon non-PCB mineral oil spill that reached Dell Brook, a tributary of the Stony Brook Reservoir, from a damaged transformer near 210 Summer Street. Lars Andresen of Tighe & Bond, representing NSTAR, said MassDEP's request for a written cleanup plan pushed the timeline and asked the extension run through December 31.
Conservation Administrator Jordan McCarron called the request "relatively small scale" and "reasonable." Cambridge Water Department's Jamie O'Connell said during public comment, "We weren't notified about this. We only found out when we saw it on the agenda." The commission also renewed a revocable trail license at 44 Ripley Lane through 2029, 6-0, and approved prior minutes, 5-0-1.
