Weston Conservation Board Confirms Wetland, Rejects Vernal Pool Claim

Weston Conservation Commission rules a former treatment pond is wetland, not a vernal pool. Wetland scientist Greg Hockmuth of Epsilon Associates, representing HYM Investment Group, told the board the 300 Wellesley Street depression held water less than the roughly two months required for wood frogs despite 10 egg masses found in April, and the panel voted 4-0 to confirm it as an isolated vegetated wetland. The commission, chaired Tuesday by Ellen Freeman Roth, also voted 4-0 to close a hearing on additions at 38 Chestnut Street and continued a 6 Page Road septic project to September 1.
Planning Board Chair Leslie Glynn told the commission Weston's affordable-housing count stands near 8.5 percent, en route to the state's 10 percent Chapter 40B threshold, with a 380-unit project at the former Biogen site expected to push the town past that mark. "I hate betting," Glynn said of the town's roughly nine-month gap in 40B "safe harbor" protection ahead.
