Weston Historical Commission Approves Window Replacements at Two Historic Properties

WESTON — November 14, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission approves window and door replacements at two historic properties and advances a garage addition to a public hearing. At the November 14 meeting, Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern and members voted 4-1 to allow the owner of 221 Ash Street — a circa-1770 Georgian house contributing to the Cases Corner National Register Historic District — to replace 29 lead-contaminated, largely inoperable windows and two exterior doors with Marvin Ultimate aluminum-clad inserts and insulated steel panel doors; member Henry S. Stone, Jr. cast the lone dissent. The commission then unanimously approved five window replacements at 198 Newton Street, a 1938 Colonial Revival just outside the Cases Corner district, with the contractor noting the changes "are improvements" to the property. A third application, for a two-car attached garage with an au pair suite above at 25 Conant Road in the Lower Conant Historic Area, was advanced unanimously to a December 12 public hearing after members said they needed complete elevation drawings before voting.
