Weston Historical Commission Imposes Demolition Delay on Church Street Carriage House

WESTON — October 17, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission imposes demolition delay on Church Street carriage house and clears path for two other property applications. At the October 17 virtual meeting, the commission voted 5-1 to impose a 12-month demolition delay on the carriage house at 22 Church Street, signaling to the Planning Board that the structure should be preserved or relocated in any future flexible subdivision plan; the lone no vote was cast by a member identified only as Maura. The board also approved revised renovation plans for a 1929 Colonial Revival home at 73 Sunset Road — requiring non-vinyl windows and conditioning final approval on an administrative sign-off by members Steve Wagner and Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern rather than a return to the full board. The commission unanimously found a 1770s-era Georgian house at 221 Ash Street, moved from Newburyport in 1923, historically significant and advanced its 28-window replacement application to a November 14 public hearing. Members also voted unanimously to authorize submission of a preservation restriction appraisal proposal by Bill Zagata of LandVest for 487 Wellesley Street to the Community Preservation Committee, and approved the de-accessioning of 22 objects from the Brooks School basement to local historical organizations.
