Weston Historical Commission approves Conant Road garage, schedules Newton Street hearing

WESTON — December 12, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission unanimously approves Conant Road garage addition and advances Central Cemetery gate restoration at December meeting. The commission voted 7-0 to approve a connected two-car garage at 25 Conant Road, finding the cedar-sided addition by contractor Emery Patterson non-detrimental to the historically significant house in the lower Conant Historic Area. The board also made a unanimous initial determination of significance for 126 Newton Street, the 1872 Marcus M. Fisk house, scheduling a public hearing for January 16, 2024, after members raised unresolved questions about whether the renovation would gut one or two floors from a 19th-century barn on the property. Department of Public Works staffer Jackie Jackson and landscape architect Karen Sebastian presented detailed survey and elevation drawings for the 1937 Central Cemetery gate complex, where the 560-pound iron gates are pulling inward on crumbling stone columns; the team plans to submit a Community Preservation Committee funding application by a January 16 deadline, with structural engineering costs still being finalized.
