Historical panel backs $1.4M open-space land bid
Historical Commission · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Weston Historical Commission backs a $1.4 million open-space purchase and three other preservation funding requests. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern led the 5-0 roll-call votes, which included $308,000 for a preservation restriction on the 120 Summer Street "lilac house," $35,000 to restore the Hillcrest bench, and $5,000 to install the commission's George Washington memorial marker. The biggest-ticket item, support for a town purchase of a 1.92-acre parcel at 819 Boston Post Road appraised near $1.4 million, protects views of the adjacent Hayfields estate, itself preserved for $225,000 in 2007.
Member Alfred Aydelott called the parcel "never going to come up again." Separately, the commission continued a demolition-delay hearing for a 17 Loring Road addition to October 13 after flagging incomplete drawings, and adopted a new rule requiring application materials three business days before meetings.
