Weston boards unanimously appoint Danielle Black to fill School Committee vacancy

WESTON — May 25, 2021 — Weston boards appoint former member Danielle Black to one-year School Committee vacancy in unanimous 7-0 joint vote. The May 25 joint meeting of the Select Board and School Committee chose Black over fellow applicants Tricia Liu and Frank Parker to fill the seat vacated by Rachel Stewart, with the term running through the 2022 Annual Town Meeting. School Committee Chair Anita Raman noted the four sitting members hold "three years total experience" combined and face full three-year contract negotiations with six unions. Vice Chair Ken Newberg said "no one on the committee as it is constituted right now has been in the room, across the table with the WEA." Select Board member Christopher Houston said the choice "begins and ends with experience," warning that one bad union round can take "a decade or more to correct." Black, a three-term former member, committed to serving only the one year.
