Weston feasibility group advances seven secondary-school plan options to pricing

WESTON — February 27, 2025 — Weston feasibility group keeps seven secondary-school options on the table, adds three-story variant. The High School/Middle School Feasibility Working Group on Feb. 27 reviewed seven renovation, addition and new-construction scenarios alongside two baselines, agreeing to carry all forward to a March 20 meeting where five will be selected for pricing. Baseline maintenance has already been estimated at $98 million to $110 million. School Committee member Ken Newberg asked the architects to add a three-story version of the all-new "combined" Option 7, suggesting savings could reach "20, 40 million potentially." Working group member Buckner, citing a recent adjacent-town project, said "I'm not convinced that renovation is cheaper than new construction." Member Maya pressed for shared back-of-house space — particularly kitchens — without mixing students: "I 100 percent would not want sixth graders walking the halls with 12th graders." Cost estimates are due the week of April 28.
