Weston School Committee Votes on Calendar, Policies, Route 30 Letter at Summer Session

WESTON — August 24, 2022 — Weston School Committee welcomed two new administrators and voted on several year-opening matters at its August 24 special summer session. The committee unanimously approved updates to Section C governance policies, an amendment to the 2022-23 school calendar adding a November 2 professional development half-day, and a letter of support for the Route 30 road reconstruction project, which includes a dedicated bike lane abutting the high school and middle school campus. Director of technology and school libraries Sherry Matthews reported enrollment of 2,014 students as of August 23, up 66 from the prior October count, with nine kindergarten sections opening — more than in recent memory. New Woodland School Principal Jason Beeman and new Weston High School Assistant Principal Jennifer Knight both introduced themselves to the committee, with Knight noting she "was excited today to hear teachers buzzing around in the hallways." Section G governance policies covering staff gifts, tutoring for pay, and hiring procedures were deliberated but held for a second public reading before any vote.
