Weston School Committee Receives Elementary Improvement Plans for 2022-23

WESTON — November 15, 2022 — Weston School Committee unanimously receives three elementary School Improvement Plans at special Country School session. Chair Daina Selvig convened the November 15 meeting to hear presentations from all three elementary principals on shared priorities including the Illustrative Math curriculum expansion to grades two through five, a new Innovation Center at Field School built with a grant from the Weston Education Foundation and Community, and the sixth year of Country School's data-cycle model. When Member Kenneth Newberg asked each principal to name their greatest risk, Country School Principal Erin identified community trust as the hardest challenge: "Building back that trust and that communication — we lived too long apart." Member Jane Li pressed for daily science and social studies instruction, and principals noted that literacy specialist Donna Gussman and curriculum specialist Susan Erickson are actively working to integrate those subjects into existing instructional blocks, including the daily 20-to-30-minute flex period now operating across all three schools.
