Weston School Committee receives middle and high school improvement plans for 2022-23

WESTON — November 17, 2022 — Weston School Committee receives 2022-23 secondary school improvement plans focused on student support and coaching. Acting Chair Allison Mozilla convened the November 17 meeting with members Jeff Lucas and Maya Gooch present, formally receiving plans from Middle School Principal John Gibbons and High School Principal Paul Perry. Gibbons highlighted a redesigned Flex Block, new STAR assessments in grades six through eight, and the work of instructional coach Elizabeth Heichelbeck, noting the school had recorded no suspensions so far this year. Perry presented ten goals at the high school — down from 23 last year — centered on MTSS, a new instructional coaching position, an evolving advisory program, and a developing Center for Community Service. Both principals identified the multi-tiered systems of support framework as the most challenging goal, citing secondary scheduling complexity. Perry framed the district's social-emotional learning work with a phrase that drew committee comment: "SEL is the plate. Everything else built on top of that."
