Select Board closes evidentiary phase of Layla dog hearing, will rule March 23

WESTON — March 16, 2021 — Weston Select Board pauses Layla dog hearing for one week, will decide nuisance ruling March 23. Three neighbors testified that golden retriever Layla, owned by Kelly G. Murphy of 44 Tamarack Road, had attacked or threatened them and their dogs, including a Jan. 30 bite to Susan Link of 55 Hubbard Road and an April 2019 attack on Ellen Richstone's 12-pound King Charles Cavalier. Animal Control Officer Karen O'Reilly issued Murphy citation No. 0934 under town bylaw Article 20, Sections 7 and 8. Member Chris Houston told Murphy "99 times out of a hundred isn't good enough if the one time causes damage and harm." Separately, Land's Sake Executive Director Pam Hess reported $3 million pledged toward a $5 million infrastructure project, and Weston Little League representative Charlie Hipwood sought up to $75,000 in CPA funds to rehabilitate five Birchard Park infields.
