Weston FinCom probes road policy costs, pool design article in pre-warrant review

WESTON — March 11, 2021 — Weston FinCom questions road-policy math and pool design fees as budget deadline looms. The committee on March 11 reviewed a level-service facilities budget with a $14 million to $25 million 10-year capital baseline, a $1.8 million recreation budget with a requested town subsidy bump from 30 to 40 percent, and a $250,000 Community Preservation Committee design article for Memorial Pool filter and concession renovations. Member John Sally said no one on the committee understands the long-run cost of the Select Board's policy of bringing every road to a minimum PCI of 70 — a floor the consultant says translates to a town-wide average of 86. "I don't understand the numbers. I don't think anybody on the FinCom understands the numbers," Sally said. The town has spent approximately $9.28 million on roads through FY21, with $6.2 million to $7.2 million still needed under the current policy. The Select Board votes the budget March 23.
