Select Board approves traffic camera pilot program

Weston Select Board unanimously backed XROADS camera surveillance pilot for town intersections. The free one-year program uses LIDAR technology to study traffic flow, cyclists, pedestrians, and near-misses; Board Chair John F. McDonald rejected original Route 117 and Merriam Street locations and the board ordered alternatives from the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee.
Alongside the camera pilot, the board approved stop signs at Tyler Road and Sherburne Circle and requested cost estimates for a Newton and Wellesley Street crosswalk study addressing safety at Land's Sake farm events drawing hundreds of visitors annually. The board appointed licensed social worker Emile Baker and financial advisor Keith Hartt to Merriam Fund trustee vacancies.
