WESTON — Conservation Commission plans to test new mowing schedule at Sears Land to support monarch butterfly habitat. The Weston-Wayland Rotary Club presented on completion of active restoration work at Sears Land Driveway Field, a multi-year collaborative effort to restore native habitat and support pollinators. The Commission agreed to experiment with different mowing dates to support monarch butterfly habitat while managing invasive black swallow-wort, which attracts monarchs but is toxic to their caterpillars.
The project is transitioning from active restoration to long-term stewardship with continued annual mowing funding from the Rotary Club. The Commission also issued four Certificates of Compliance for 321 Merriam Street and continued a hearing on a proposed resource area delineation at 300 Wellesley Street to July 7.
