Select Board approves Burgoyne Elm sign replacement and Legacy Trail extension

WESTON — November 24, 2020 — Weston Select Board greenlights Burgoyne Elm sign and Legacy Trail benches in unanimous votes. The board voted 3-0 on Nov. 24 to authorize a Historical Commission-fabricated replacement sign for the long-gone Burgoyne Elm east of the Fisk Law Office, and 3-0 to install three additional granite benches and trailhead markers extending the Weston 300 Legacy Trail across the Case Estates to Wellesley and Ash streets. James Beams said the granite was reclaimed from the old Field School facade and that an engraver offered $10,000 each for two of the hand-carved pillars. The board interviewed four candidates for one Historical Commission seat, two for two Tree Advisory Group seats and three for one Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee seat, with appointments deferred. The consent agenda included a $17,000 Rivers School ice contract, with Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald estimating roughly $3,000 of pandemic exposure tied to adult hockey. Members set the joint Financial Summit for 9 a.m. on Dec. 7.
