Kendal Common study committee finalizes draft webpage, plans neighborhood letter

WESTON — January 5, 2023 — Kendal Common study committee advances webpage and neighborhood letter for proposed mid-century district. At its Jan. 5 meeting, the committee reviewed a draft town webpage prepared by member Christine, agreeing to add a before-and-after image of the demolished Barnes house, an image of the Gropius House in Lincoln for stylistic context, and language noting that none of the post-1945 homes in the proposed district are covered by Weston's demolition delay bylaw — "they're all post-'45," one member said. Phase 2 of the Massachusetts Historical Commission survey by consultant Stacy is complete, with a wrap-up meeting set for the following week. Chantal Buchanan has agreed to distribute an introductory letter to neighborhood residents once drafted. During public comment, a member urged residents to oppose Cambridge School of Weston's demolition permit for a Lexington Street farmhouse, calling it "demolition by neglect." Next meeting: Feb. 2.
