Historical Commission clears Golden Ball garage demolition, defers two window cases

WESTON — March 12, 2024 — Weston's Historical Commission deferred two window projects and cleared a 1927 garage demolition on March 12. Co-Chair Steve Wagner and members held the line on a perpetual preservation deed restriction at 263 South Ave., where owner Lilia Elliston is seeking to replace 25 to 26 windows on a salt-box home with custom nine-over-six sash. Pella representative Timothy O'Keefe said the initial $95,000 estimate will rise after a site visit revealed full tear-outs are required. Resident Alicia Primer told the commission the restriction's language is "unequivocal" and bars any change without town counsel sign-off. Members also continued a 20 Maple St. addition to April 9 after Member Alfred Aydelott noted the revised plan still increases the structure's area by 140 percent, and approved up to $7,500 in Community Preservation funds to draft a donated preservation restriction on the Wellington House at 500 Wellesley St.
