Historical Commission approves Warren Place demolition, backs town green tree plan

WESTON — February 13, 2024 — Weston Historical Commission clears Warren Place teardown and backs $40,000 town green tree plan. The commission voted 6-1 Tuesday to approve full demolition of 21 Warren Place after owner Michael Dennis showed that wetlands setbacks forced the new septic system into the existing house's footprint; Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern was the lone no vote. Members also voted 7-0 to support a Tree Advisory Group request for $40,000 in Community Preservation Committee funds to inventory, assess and design a long-range replacement plan for the canopy on the town green, Lamson Park and Knox Park, where horse chestnuts, hemlocks and red pines have died or are failing. Presenter Carol Lee said the goal is "a documented plan with the town" rooted in the 1911 Shurcliff design rather than piecemeal replacements. A 20 Maple Street addition was continued to March 12 after Member Alfred Aydelott called the project's zoning nonconformities "more extensive than at least I've ever seen."
