Historical Commission approves barn conversion and 1938 colonial renovation

WESTON — September 14, 2021 — Weston Historical Commission clears two historic-district renovations but holds the line on bay-window detail. The commission voted 5-0 to approve revised plans for the 741 Boston Post Road barn conversion after architect Lydia Shudovowska restored the cupola, horizontal white siding, window boxes and trim the panel had previously asked for; member Alfred Aydelott insisted the existing 13-inch eyebrow projections stay full-depth rather than shrink to eight inches, calling them "hefty and rich and original." At 82 Oxbow Road, owner Karen McGrath's 1938 colonial was declared historically significant and her rear addition, slate-look roof, wood-shutter restoration and Andersen 400 Series window replacements approved — but the commission sent the front bay windows back for further study, with Aydelott objecting that the three-over-one flanker scheme reads "craftsman" rather than colonial revival. Co-chairs Phyllis Halpern and Steve Wagner will administratively approve both projects once revisions arrive. The commission also funded a $68 replacement plaque for the Boston Post Road fire station.
