Historical Commission lifts Bogle Street demolition delay, approves Orchard Avenue restoration

WESTON -- August 17, 2021, Weston Historical Commission lifts one demolition delay and waives another at five-property meeting. The commission voted unanimously to lift a 12-month delay at 97 Bogle Street after owner Charles Bridges presented revised plans relocating a walkout basement to the rear; members urged clapboard over brick. A full restoration of the 1912 estate "The Knoll" at 164 Orchard Avenue, guided by original plans found in the basement, was approved 6-0. A barn-to-residence conversion at 741 Boston Post Road was continued to Sept. 14 after members asked architect Lydia of Pioneer Architecture and Interiors to drop a gray board-and-batten gable, keep the structure all-white clapboard, and replace a projecting front balcony with a railing, "people don't go out on balconies like that," member Henry S. Stone, Jr. said. The commission declined a delay on the former Anza homestead at 390 Highland Street, where new owner Lisa Rivers will salvage barn timbers for a horse barn and farm stand. Members also backed a joint CPC funding ask for affordable housing at 699 Boston Post Road and committed $10,000 from a blanket-chest sale toward a Josiah Smith Tavern history exhibit.
