Historical Commission accepts as-built gambrel at 300 Meadowbrook, recommends rear hip roofs

WESTON — April 2, 2021 — Weston Historical Commission reluctantly accepts unapproved addition at 300 Meadowbrook Road. Members voted 5-1 Friday to accept the as-built massing of a gambrel addition built roughly 18 inches taller than the plans the commission approved in August 2019, with Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern dissenting. A Metro West Engineering survey, paid for by the town, confirmed the height discrepancy. The commission also voted 5-1 to require wood louvered shutters and to accept Pella Lifestyle Series windows with simulated divided lights, and 5-1 — pending completed drawings — to recommend swapping a tall rear gable for a low hip roof with a matching hip over the mudroom entry. Member John Thompson cast his vote "with great reluctance and unhappiness." Co-Chairs Halpern and Steve Wagner were unanimously authorized to draft the commission's letter to the Zoning Board of Appeals, which hears the stop-work order and special-permit amendment Monday.
