Historical Commission approves Derby Lane greenhouse, presses Meadowbrook owners on design fixes

WESTON — March 30, 2021 — Weston Historical Commission approves Derby Lane greenhouse and convenes special meeting on stalled Meadowbrook addition. The commission voted 5-0 March 30 to find a metal-and-glass greenhouse attached to the 1930 French-eclectic house at 29 Derby Lane not detrimental, with member John Thompson saying he liked that the design was "clearly not part of the original house" and could be removed without disturbing the structure. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern declined to delegate executive approval on 300 Meadowbrook Road, where the building inspector's stop-work order remains in place after construction diverged from approved plans; the commission scheduled a special meeting Friday, April 2 at 2 p.m. to act on revised drawings before the Zoning Board of Appeals reconvenes April 5. The commission also approved a $600 Metro West Engineering survey invoice, voted 95 Newton Street historically significant, and heard from Jim Palumbo that 261 Meriam Street will list April 17 with a private preservation deed restriction.
