Historical Commission recommends lower hip roof for Meadowbrook Road addition

WESTON — April 8, 2021 — Weston Historical Commission recommends lower hip roof and wood shutters for 300 Meadowbrook Road. In two 5-1 votes Thursday, the commission backed tearing off recently built family-room framing to drop the roofline and align fascias with the existing Gambrel, then approved revised drawings SKA1, SKA2 and SKA6 dated April 7 subject to omitting an arched fan light and requiring real wood louvered shutters on functional hardware along Wellesley Street and Meadowbrook Road. Architect Dan Quayle estimated the rebuild would add "$15,000 or $20,000." Member Steve Wagner moved the roof motion but voted no on cost grounds, saying it was "harder … to vote against what we wanted than to vote for what we didn't really want." Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern, who pushed for the lower roof, voted against the elevations, calling the Gambrel addition "too, too large." The recommendation now goes to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
