Weston ZBA Continues King Garage Variance Hearing to April Over Unresolved Concerns

WESTON — February 27, 2023 — Weston ZBA continues King garage variance to April 25, citing unresolved septic and size questions. Acting Chair Winifred Lee and members Stephen LaRock and Wendy Kaplan-Armor voted unanimously Monday to continue the hearing on a variance request by Scott and Mariam King of 470 Conant Road, who are seeking to replace a caved-in 1968 garage with a new three-car structure that would sit 23 feet from the street setback. LaRock said he wants a letter from the Board of Health confirming the existing septic system can support what he called near-new construction — a renovation involving new roof trusses, new foundation sections, and reframed exterior walls. Kaplan-Armor pressed the Kings to consider a two-car design, saying the mortgage constraint argument "is not definitionally what the zoning bylaws anticipate." Neighbor David Stevens of 474 Conant Road called the existing structure "lower 10 percent" for Weston attractiveness and urged approval; abutter John Hennessey cited the steep existing driveway as the core hardship. The board separately granted a special permit, also unanimously, for an addition at 22 Derby Lane.
